Driving licence endorsements & disqualifications under ‘totting up’ procedures

Driving licence endorsements & disqualifications under ‘totting up’ procedures

Motor offences for individuals

Accumulating 12 penalty points over any three year period will lead to you being disqualified from driving for a minimum of six months.

Note that it is the date of the offences that is taken into account when deciding the three year period, not the date of the hearings. Points that have expired between an offence being committed and the hearing taking place will still be taken into account.

When you get your licence back, the prior penalty points are removed.

To avoid being banned under totting up, you will need to prove that disqualification would result in exceptional hardship. As a result, it is imperative that you get specialist legal advice if you have accumulated 12 points on your licence.
